RV Investigator Voyage IN2026_V04 SBP29 Sub-bottom Profiler data

This record describes sub bottom profiler data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2026_V04, titled "Quaternary evolution of the Darumbal and Woppaburra Sea Country in the Southern Great Barrier Reef." The voyage took place between July 28, 2026 and August 20, 2026 (AEST), departing from Brisbane and returning to Brisbane.

The Kongsberg SBP29 (sub bottom profiler) was used to acquire data containing the specular reflections at different sediment interfaces below the seafloor. The SBP29 provides a 3° by 3° angular resolution.

The echosounder's frequency sweep range is from 2.5 to 7 kHz. The SBP29 was logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Additionally, the science party requested composite beams to be recorded during most mapping areas of the study area. The project aims to understand the submerged landscapes and collect data to inform eReefs 3D modelling. Some areas collected sbp29 data using 9 composite beams (4 starboard, 4 port and the centre-beam composite), and the majority of the time it was set to the maximum amount of 21 beams (10 starboard, 10 port and the centre-beam composite). These beams were set at 2 degrees apart.

Data are stored in *.raw (26,370 files 552 GB) raw and *.seg ( 27,641 files 580 GB) segy formats at CSIRO.

The segy format data had a real time processing stream applied, which applies gain, a gain correction, matched filter with replica shaping, an attribute calculation for instantaneous amplitude and time variable gain.
