Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast Rocky Shore Survey: Birdfood Availability Study 2014 MBA

This study aims to assess rocky shore communities along and in the vicinity of six established transects and at six new transect sites within the Teesmouth and Cleveland Coast SPA as a feeding resource for shorebirds. The study will also aim to assess the broader biodiversity at these sites to provide an overview of the condition of the areas using the following methodology: -A Phase I biotope survey along the six already established transects, and six new transects designated by Natural England, providing information on the different biotopes and how this differs across the study area,

Quantitative (Phase II) surveys in the location of the transects to provide data on

  • species composition of different biotopes,
  • distribution and abundance of target prey species,
  • determine the size distribution of three selected prey species plus,

A rapid Phase I biotope survey of the surrounding area. The results will be compared to previous work and interpretation of the resulting information (together with other relevant published work) will inform Natural England on the current status of the rocky shores sub-feature of the site.

This is an updated version of the metadata created by The Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom in 2015 (https://gis.ices.dk/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/6cdbfde2-b8f2-42a7-98f1-0bd4a076f414). This newer version is INSPIRE compliant as part of the standardisation process for uploading the data to EMODnet Seabed Habitats.
