Port Washington, WI Spotter Buoy

Funded via a grant from the Great Lakes Observing System, this data buoy is maintained by the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary in cooperation with the Great Lakes Environmental Lab and Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research. The buoy provides real time wind and wave information, as well as temperature through the water column. The data helps make on-water recreation safer, provides anglers with key water temperature information, and improves modeling and forecasting. Located off Port Washington, WI, the buoy is active from approximately May 1 to November 1 each year. NOTE: The wind values displayed for these buoys (Sofar Spotters & Smart Moorings) are based on an estimate from its wave measurements, and not an actual direct measurement.
