Benthos Overview: Temperature Data from the Small Stream Health Monitoring Program
Benthos Overview is a voluntary health monitoring program for small streams using benthic macroinvertebrates as a biological indicator. The scientific rigor demonstrated in this program, the expertise of the Water Education and Ecomonitoring Group (G3E) and the close collaboration of the MELCC in this project, allow people with little or no experience in the field of benthic macroinvertebrates to make a scientifically valid diagnosis of the overall health of their watercourse. Temperature data was taken as part of phase 2 of the G3E project Monitored Rivers, Adapting for the Future (2021-2024), a project funded by the Action-Climat Québec program. The purpose of this monitoring is to integrate temperature data into the SurVol Benthos program to document the effects of climate change on benthic macroinvertebrate populations, with the possible aim of adapting to climate change.
