The effect of the deadly trio on the gonad transcriptome of the juvenile European sea bass, Dicentratchus labrax (HEALTHSEA project)
The study aimed to investigate how long-term exposure to multiple environmental stressors associated with climate change (warming, acidification, and hypoxia) affects gonadal development in juvenile European sea bass. Using RNA-seq analysis, we compared gonadal gene expression under present-day environmental conditions and projected IPCC 2100 conditions. The study focused on identifying molecular responses associated with gonadal maturation and differentiation, with particular emphasis on genes involved in reproductive functions. The results aim to improve our understanding of the potential consequences of future ocean conditions on fish reproductive physiology and fitness.
