Salcombe to Kingsbridge and Erme Estuary intertidal biotope survey
Natural England commissioned surveys of the biotopes and communities of the intertidal areas within the Salcombe to Kingsbridge Estuary and Erme Estuary SSSIs, in order to fulfil the monitoring requirements for these features of the SSSIs for Condition Assessment, and set a baseline (where one does not exist) for future monitoring work. Also, to identify any species and biotopes that are representative and/or notable within each estuary. The Salcombe to Kingsbridge Estuary SSSI features cover virtually all aspects of the intertidal, whereas the Erme Estuary SSSI only has sand and mudflats and saltmarsh as designated features. The saltmarshes were not included in the present survey.
