Restoration of Coastal Habitats in the Grèves Sector, Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (2018-2021)

The Comité ZIP du Sud-de-l'Estuaire team, in collaboration with the municipality of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Coastal Restoration Fund: CRF), carried out coastal characterization and restoration work in the hydrosedimentary cell of the Grèves sector in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges.

The characterization of the territory made it possible to obtain a global and current portrait of the study area in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. The areas of the marine marsh and the eelgrass beds have been mapped. Inventories of fauna and flora provided an idea of the species present in this sector. In order to limit the phenomenon of erosion and to improve the resilience of the environment, a project to transplant spartine and eelgrass meadows was carried out. In addition, sedimentary recharge and the planting of native species (Elymes, roses) have made it possible to stabilize the coast.
