The Heritage Value of the American Eel in the St. Lawrence Valley
The EEL (Energy, Education, and Cultural Legacy of the American Eel in the St. Lawrence River) research project aims to explore the biology, socio-economic history, and heritage value of the American eel (Anguilla rostrata), a species in decline in Quebec. The eel's bioenergetics make it possible to trace its migratory path and predict its growth in response to environmental changes. The project highlights the historical and cultural importance of the eel to Quebec, its role in socio-economic development, and its ecological contributions.
