Characterization of Sites Colonized by the Japanese Knotweed (2012-2015)

Between 2012 and 2015, the Comité ZIP Jacques-Cartier and the Comité ZIP des Seigneuries carried out the project “Preventing the proliferation of Japanese knotweed on the territory of the Montréal metropolitan community.” They identified shoreline sites where this invasive exotic species was likely to be present. These sites were characterized several times between 2012 and 2015. Each site was the subject of a biophysical inventory to determine the growth rate of Japanese knotweed colonies as well as their impact on biodiversity.

The characterization data are accompanied by the paper Comprendre la prolifération de la renouée du Japon sur les rives du Saint-Laurent written by Valérie Aubin and Sylvie Bibeau, published in summer 2016 in the journal Le Naturaliste Canadien, vol. 140, no. 2.
