Restoring Fish Habitat in the Saint-Georges Canal in Port-Menier, Anticosti Island

The main objective of this project was to restore wildlife connectivity by allowing fish to circulate between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Lake Saint-Georges, in Port-Menier, on Anticosti Island. It also aimed to improve the ecological characteristics of fish habitat in the Saint-Georges Canal by creating wildlife improvements and restoring its shores. The actions taken to achieve these goals, between 2020 and 2022, consisted in developing two migratory passages and fish habitats, removing anthropogenic elements as well as transforming two existing dams that prevented the movement of fish to allow the creation of migration routes.
