ArcticNet/IOL - Industry Marine Observatories (moorings) in the Beaufort Sea (2009-2011)
From 2009 to 2011, eight moorings equipped with state-of-the-art instruments were maintained in the industry exploration acreages EL446, EL449 and EL451 to collect year-round records of currents, temperature, salinity, turbidity, nutrients, dissolved oxygen, ice thickness and the vertical flux of carbon and contaminants. The moorings were deployed over the Mackenzie Shelf and Slope in depths ranging from 80m to 1000m and were equipped with Ice Profiling Sonar (IPS5), Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (QM ADCP), Doppler Value Sampling (DVS), RBR conductivity and temperature logger, sand speed IPS instruments, sediment traps (Technicap) and acoustic release transponder (model 8242XS). The available quality controlled data include water temperature, conductivity (salinity), density, PAR, Chla, turbidity, oxygen and current velocity (speed and direction). This study was supported through a research collaboration between the Amundsen program, ArcticNet, BP Exploration Operating Company Limited, ExxonMobil and Imperial Oil.
