Pelagia Logbook: Aegean Sea 2025

This dataset contains georeferenced citizen science records of the mauve stinger jellyfish Pelagia noctiluca collected across the Aegean Sea during 2025. Members of the public submitted observations through social media reporting channels, iNaturalist, and the Facebook community: ??d??se? st?? ????da - Jellyfish in Greece. Each record includes date, location, species confirmation, abundance category, and photographic or descriptive evidence. The dataset was curated and quality checked by Merman Conservation Expeditions Ltd as part of a regional early warning and marine monitoring program designed to detect jellyfish blooms, assess public exposure risk, and document changes in pelagic ecosystems. These records support coastal safety, tourism awareness, and fisheries planning while also contributing to long-term research on climate-driven range shifts, circulation patterns, and plankton dynamics in the eastern Mediterranean.
