Buffalo Buoy

The Buffalo Buoy is a NexSens CB-650 data buoy that is operated by the Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State University. It is located 2 nautical miles SSW of Buffalo, New York, in the Eastern Basin of Lake Erie in approximately 40 feet of water. This buoy provides real-time wind, water, and wave conditions that are useful for commercial and recreational navigation. It also connects the general public to the water and helps them make safe decisions. Other benefits include the collection of quantifiable data related to coastal resiliency, meteorology, and ecological studies. We would like to acknowledge the New York Power Authority’s Niagara River Greenway Ecological Fund for financial support to purchase and operate this buoy.
